Oval food tray Basket Humanities Info Card | Updated 1 decade ago Basket F3008WA Museum Registration Number: F3008 Location: Samoa Stitch Type: Twining - Samoan Weave Collection Date: 1960s Description: Made from pandanus palm; an oval tray with twining in a Samoan weave. The tray has two small stiff handles and a natural colour with pink and blue rings following the oval design. Curator Story The weaving design used in this basket is more commonly found in traditional mats (or 'ie tôga) crafted in Samoa. It is unusual to find the same pattern in basketry since most Samoan baskets feature a Seven-Step Caning stitch.
