People have lived in Australia for tens of thousands of years.

The Indigenous people of the goldfields area spent many generations adapting to the unique environment. A rich culture evolved, but the Indigenous way of life came under threat with the arrival of white settlers.

Laws and regulations were soon introduced and forced upon Indigenous people in an attempt to both control their lives, and to change their way of life.
