National Volunteer Week News | Created 23 May 2024 National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate volunteers across the country, but at the WA Museum we are grateful for our volunteers every day of the year! If you have visited one of our sites, you've likely been greeted by one of our wonderful volunteers. Knowledgeable, passionate, helpful, and generous, they are always there to ensure visitors have the best experience at any one of WA Museum's seven locations. Here's what they had to say about why they volunteer: WA Museum Volunteers Image copyright WA Museum "I love volunteering at Boola Bardip. Great team, always interesting projects and galleries and I learn something every shift. The feeling of being valued and appreciated is fantastic!" Carmel Markham Volunteer at Boola Bardip since November 2020 "I absolutely love the interaction and inclusivity and knowledge from other volunteers and staff, as well as visitors who provide information and the children who are so excited to see our galleries ... especially the dinosaurs!" Craig Hammond Volunteer at Boola Bardip since November 2022 WA Maritime Museum Volunteer Image copyright WA Museum "I really love conducting tours through HMAS Ovens and it makes me very happy when people really appreciate the tour and gain an understanding of the way submariners lived." Neil Weller Volunteer at the WA Maritime Museum since 2017 "I love to chat to visitors and have met many lovely people while volunteering. Interacting with visitors adds a human and personal dimension to the Museum and is interesting and enriching for me." I love working with similar minded people and meeting a huge number of fascinating people from all over the world whom we would not normally cross paths with in our lives. It's great to be a part of such a lovely team." Ed Longville Volunteer at the Museum of the Great Southern since February 2023 "Being a volunteer creates great opportunities to expand your knowledge of the history of the Brig Amity and the history of Albany, meet travellers from all over the world and work with fabulous staff at the Museum of the Great Southern. It also keeps you up to date with the activities and exhibitions beig run by the Museum!"
