The Marine Engine, Science and Technology Collection comprises of marine steam machinery, pumps and generators used on ships that operated off Western Australia’s coast.

The collection includes combustion engines made in Western Australia, and Australian engines with a strong Western Australian provenance. The Maritime History department also collects imported marine engines that have a strong Western Australian marine history or represent major trends in the history and development of marine engineering in this State.

The collection also includes contextual artefacts, such as marine engineer uniforms, epaulettes, caps, overalls, tools, and other associated materials.

Donate to the collection

Donations to the collection of marine engines, science and technology requires that marine steam machinery is sourced from vessels that operated in Western Australian waters or in local marine industries; combustion engines made in Western Australia and Australia, if the provenance is strongly local; imported engines that have had a major impact on the trends and history of marine engineering in this State. Contextual artefacts, such as marine engineer uniforms, lapels, caps, overalls, tools, and other associated materials are also considered.
