Faunal Surveys of the Rowley Shoals, Scott Reef and Seringapatam Reef, North-Western Australia: Fishes

WA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 9 years ago

Abstract: A series of fish collections from previously unexplored Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef, off north-western Australia, are reported. A preliminary list is provided containing 688 species in 258 genera and 77 families, including 342 new records for Western Australia. Approximately 380 species collected from these oceanic corals reefs have not been found on coastal reefs of Western Australia, although many are present on the Great Barrier Reef. The overall faunal composition is similar to that of other oceanic reef areas in the tropical Indo-West Pacific, with strong affinity to the Indonesian fauna.
