The Malacostraca include the majority of well-known crustaceans, especially the edible species found in the order Decapoda. Decapods have the characteristic of one pair of legs modified into pincers and include the familiar crab, lobster, prawns and krill.

Other well-known and interesting animals in the Malacostraca group include krill, isopods and amphipods.
