Presented in association with the Nelson Society of Australia, Inc

Come and enjoy an interview with a difference, as the Nelson Society calls upon its dramatic talents to bring the “Sailor King” to life! In a remarkable feat of historical enactment, the editor of the Nelson Society Newsletter will interview King William IV, who as Duke of Clarence served in the British Royal Navy with Lord Nelson.

The discussion will initially explore William’s intriguing association with Western Australia, and then cover his career as a naval officer prior to being crowned King of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of Hanover in 1830. Of particular interest is William’s service with Lord Nelson in the West Indies in the 1780’s which offered sustained experience of the world at large and at sea, framing the background of his subsequent promotion to Admiral, and then Admiral of the Fleet before ascending the throne.

Join the Nelson Society to celebrate this lively tale of high office and military history on the high seas.

COST: $12 per person. Includes refreshments after the lecture
BOOKINGS: Essential on 9431 8455. Please RSVP by 5.00pm, Wednesday 16 October
