Erth’s widely acclaimed show Dinosaur Petting Zoo is bigger and better and heading to the WA Museum for the July school holidays in 2012!

Dinosaur Petting Zoo is an experiential theatre performance which features a cast of large-scale Australian dinosaur puppets brought to life by sophisticated design, electronics and theatrical presentation. These amazingly life-like dinosaur recreations are developed in consultation with palaeontologists, based on current science and specialist interpretations of dinosaur fossil evidence. Erth’s dinosaur puppets stimulate the imagination about dinosaur life in a way that connects children to the real science of palaeontology.

This year at the Dinosaur Petting Zoo in the WA Museum, children will meet the most recent additions to Erth’s family of dinosaurs (most of which are new to WA audiences). These include the carnivore Australovenator, known from a Queensland discovery of the most complete meat-eating dinosaur skeleton found in Australia to date and the mighty titanosaur, a long-necked dinosaur whose relatives were some of the heaviest creatures to walk the Earth - audiences beware! Making a return are cute baby dinosaurs and Leaellynasaura, a small graceful dinosaur with beautiful big eyes!.

You can view some of the video available of Erth’s previous dinosaur shows on their YouTube channel. The Dinosaur Petting Zoo show that is coming to Perth in 2012 features new key dinosaurs that have not been seen in WA before in a full theatrical presentation indoors (not outside).

The format of a petting zoo allows for this performance to engage the audience in an experiential and educational framework borrowed from zoos: the ‘live animal display’. This means that children are able to get close to some of these creatures, and experience the scale and sense of movement that we would expect from these often large and majestic creatures. Erth’s dinosaurs display ‘animal behaviour’ with all of the responsiveness, unpredictability and dynamic intelligence of being controlled by a live performer! Opportunities to pet, feed and interact with dinosaurs are all part of the show, and makes this a truly interactive, magical and inspiring experience for people of all ages (recommended for ages 5 and above).
