Greek court costume ("Amalia costume", after Queen Amalia):
(a) Jacket ("kondogouni); maroon silk velvet; short, tight fitting; low front closure with 8 hooks and eyes; all edges trimmed with gold braid and gold thread embroidery; lined with white cotton; label inside neck: 'E. SAPPAS TAILLEUR GREC DE LA COUR' enclosing a coat of arms.
(b) Bodice ("foustani" or "kavadi"): bright blue moire silk; short, tight-fitting; v-neck, low front closure with 8 hooks and eyes; very long pagoda sleeves slit to natural wrist level, the reveal lined with pink silk; all edges trimmed with gold braid and gold thread embroidery; lined with cream cotton.
(c) Skirt: European style; bright blue moire silk; straight front; gathered very full at back, requiring crinoline or bustle; train lined with fine hessian-like fabric.
(d) Chemise ("poukamiso"): cream, textured, striped silk; one piece front and back; neck opening trimmed with peasant lace; long square sleeves gathered at shoulder; trimmed with lace at cuff; band of yellow damask ribbon down length of sleeve.
