Child's cotton, white ground with sprigs of blue & grey flowers in printed design. Round neck, self piped. Fitted bodice, with trimming in flat folds of material in `U' shaped panel from mid shoulder to waist. 4 rows of self-material smocking. Short, tight sleeves, piped at shoulder and above added frill. Low waistline in front extending to point and piped. Fastens down bodice back with 10 metal hooks and eyes, set on placket. Very full skirt, set with even gathers onto bodice with hand stroking 2 large tucks simulating flounces(?) on skirt. Pocket set in seam just right of centre. Bodice lining and pocket of heavy white cotton (& sleeves). Placket for bone in bodice lining centre front, extending to waist point. All hand sewn. Christie's Catalogue suggested 1858 ca.
