One-piece dress. Bodice: Front fastening with hooks at neck and waist and 9 decorative gilt acorn buttons, 1 broken. White cotton lining fastens separately with hooks and eyes. Low pointed waistline with piped seam. Gathered section from shoulders to centre waist. Front cut in single section each side and back in one piece. Pelerine labels sloping shoulders to waist. Piped shoulder seams set well back on shoulders to waist. Piped shoulder seams set well back on shoulders. Pagoda sleeve, fitting at top with rouching and wide opening from above elbow. Would have been worn with undersleeves. Skirt: Set into waist-band with gauging. Three tiers a disposition, widen skirt. Hem lined, but unbound and skirt unlined.
Low waistline, gathering on bodice are more characteristic of dresses of the late 1840s but front fastening bodice introduced c. 1850. Material is reddish brown sprig muslin. Cotton pocket in right hand seam.
