Blue green shot silk. Dress in one piece with skirt set directly onto bodice. Bodice: Front fastening with hooks and eyes (7) and 7 ornamental buttons of green, blue, red and black silk covered buttons. Front has pleated folds of material, formed from one piece of fabric, extending over shoulder and gathered in fan shape at centre waist. Band of black velvet at neck, with narrow double frill of cotton machine made lace set inside. Waistband piped. Long full, closed Bishop sleeve, gathered slightly at cuff and finished above cuff with narrow same material frill. Single seam. Full skirt, set in 7 widths and pleated with flat box pleats onto bodice. Fullness evenly distributed. Fastening centre front. Pocket set in right hand side seam. Fully lined with white cotton, bodice lining heavier cotton. Hem braided with woollen braid. Skirt shape, sleeve and waistline suggest date from c. 1859.
