WEDDING DRESS

Dress: Princess style, (all-in-one). Cream cotton with satin stripe. Fitted style of circa 1879 early 1880s. Front fastening hooks, eyelet holes and 11 ornamental plastic buttons. Collar of lace. Skirt trimmed with folds of material in apron style with 3 rows of ruching and 2 frills at hem. Drapery forms bustle low at back and skirt extends into short train. Bodice front cut with 2 deep darts from bust to well below waist and at waist. Back cut in 4 curved sections, central sections extending into bustle. Unboned. Watch pocket at waist, outer left hand side. Sleeve seams set well back on shoulders and piped. Inner and outer seam to sleeves. Fitted and ending in long ornamental cuff, with 2 narrow frills of material and trim of machine bobbin lace. 3 decorative buttons. Fully lined, including sleeves, in cotton. All machine-sewn, except eyelet holes (hand-sewn). Pocket in right hand seam. Ref A.M. Buck, 'Victorian Costume and Costume Accessories', 1961, pp. 54-66 for style.
