LONG ROBE

CH1985.236

Long robe of fine white cotton pique; wide neck trimmed with tiny frill of muslin, gathered by tape tie at back. Bodice gathered very full by gauging both to neck and waistband; panel of gauging at waist given a smocked effect with couched lines of thread; sash ties attach to panel; deep hem with 3 rows of pin tucks. Long sleeves, also gauged with smocked effect; tiny fabric-covered buttons at back and on cuffs. Handsewn throughout. Possibly for an aesthetic baby?
