LONG ROBE, infant's

White cotton. Tiny yoke, with sleeves forming part of "waist" line. Bodice composed of vertical pintucks, with insertions of machine broderie anglaise. Insertion at shoulders. Round high neck with machine lace trim. Long sleeve with 5 bands of pintucks, gathered at shoulder & wrist, with insertion & lace trim at wrist. Skirt gathered onto yoke, finished with machine feather stitched braid. Skirt finished with 8 bands of pintucking, machine broderie anglaise and machine lace insertions & machine broderie anglaise frill. Back fastening with draw tape at neck, & button at waist. Probably worn by one of the Brierley children. Reference: VICTORIAN SHOPPING, 1895, page 862.
