DRESSING GOWN, Late 1890s

Dressing gown of pink and white spotted cotton lawn; opens down front, 10 large mother of pearl buttons; stand-up collar trimmed with self-frill and frill of white cotton lace; ornamental bow at throat; square yoke trimmed with wide cape-like flounce, itself trimmed with border of plain white cotton edged with hand-embroidered broderie anglaise; front gathered to yoke; back has large box pleat like a sack robe, giving very full train at back hem; sleeves gauged to armholes for maximum fullness of late 1890s style; gathered at wrist with drawstring tape; cuff trimmed with broderie anglaise; hand and machine sewn.
