White cotton. Very high bodice, more like a yoke, composed of alternate rows of machine broderie anglaise and pintucking. Back plain. Narrow trim of machine lace at high neck. Very full sleeves, set with gathers into shoulder. 4 rows of pintucking on sleeves. Gathered into frill, lace edged, with trim of machine herringbone braid. Sleeves form part of waistline. Skirt gathered onto yoke. Very long, with 5 rows of pintucking above 5 alternating rows of machine broderie anglaise and 3 frills of white machine embroidery at hem. All machine sewn. Fastens at neck with draw tape and button "waist". Probably worn by the Brierley Children. Mr & Mrs Brierley married 1891. Reference: VICTORIAN SHOPPING, 1895, page 862.
