LONG ROBE, infant's

White. Long or Christening robe. Round neck trimmed with machine Valenciennes lace. Fastens with drawtape. "V" shaped panel of whitework insertions on bodice, with frill on each side extending over shoulder. Long, full sleeves with second frill at shoulder. Cuff of whitework with lace trim. Skirt gathered onto bodice, with braid trim at waist. Panel of embroidery edged with frills widens to hem. Composed of alternate sections of pintucks and whitework. Wide frill at hem. Fastens with tape at waist and elongated cloth covered button. All machine sewn. Probably worn by one of the Brierley children. Bodice & waistline embroidered with coral stitch. Almost all machine stitching is with a chain stitch. Braid on skirt appears to have been added later (sewn with lock stitch).
