Old Farm, Strawberry Hill & Western Australian Museum – Albany

Did you know that Old Farm Strawberry Hill was the site of the first farm in Western Australia growing vegetables for the soldiers? In 1835 Captain Sir Richard Spencer, his wife and nine children arrived at the settlement and took possession of Government Farm as it was then known. The Bird family purchased the property in 1889 and changed the name to 'The Old Farm'.

Visiting both Old Farm Strawberry Hill and WA Museum-Albany, this workshop explores significant stories of the early settlers and convicts of this first European settlement in Western Australia and relationships with the Minang people. Links will be made to the Australian Curriculum: History by analysing sources and investigating how stories of the past can be communicated using the historical inquiry process.
