On the 14th of December 1911, Roald Amundsen and his four companions were the first people to ever reach the South Pole.

Amundsen’s group took with them cameras to gather a visual record of the journey and the Antarctic environment.

Captured in the earliest days of moving camera images, a version of this record of ordinary moments of Amundsen’s legendary expedition was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in 2005.
