Celebrating our French connections

At WA Maritime Museum we are celebrating our unique French connections through our French Explorers in Western Australia exhibitions. As part of the exhibition season we will also be bringing you the best in French cinema.

The annual Alliance Française Classic Film Festival aims to rediscover masterpieces of French cinema, highlighting a talent, actor or director who has made an indelible contribution to France’s celebrated film industry.

The 2018 season is focusing on the legendary Jeanne Moreau, showcasing restored versions of 5 of her most famous films from 1958 to 1991.

Jules & Jim by Francois Truffaut

An Austrian named Jules and a Frenchman named Jim enjoy the decadent lifestyle pre-WW1. Catherine, a wilful and alluring young woman is attracted to both of them. With WW1 looming, the young men find themselves on opposite sides of the battle.

After the war, Catherine, married to Jules and raising their daughter, is emotionally dissatisfied and embarks on an affair with Jim. Under the resilient eyes of Jules, Catherine’s carefree behaviour soon leads to increasingly dramatic consequences.

This special opening night event will screen Jules & Jim by Francois Truffaut.

Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm screening. Guests are provided with a drink and nibbles on arrival

Guided tours of our French Explorers in WA exhibitions will be held before the screening.
