Join in our feathered focus days on a threatened species local to Fremantle with some special visitors from Kaarakin Cockatoo Recovery Centre.

WA Museum – Kalgoorlie

Easter Bilby Ambassadors.
Children attending the Easter Bilby Ambassadors program will learn the story of the Easter Bilby and why the bilby is perfectly adapted for the hugely exciting and prestigious job of delivering Easter treats within Australia. They will take part in a native animal puppet show and play ‘Western Woodland games’ that teach children about our precious native animals and what we can do to help look after them.

Wildlife Wandering… Investigate & Celebrate!
This program gives participants the opportunity to investigate and celebrate local, endangered animals. Children are challenged to locate and collect numerous hidden facts about our precious local animals and use the information to make a poster. Participants are then encouraged to play ‘Western Woodland games’ to learn more about our precious native animals and what we can do to help look after them.

WA Museum – Albany

Participants will learn about quokkas, their features, habits and role in the ecosystem through fun and interactive activities.

There’s something small and furry in the Valey of the Giants! Find out who makes tracks and tumbles through the tunnels in the dark of the forest night. The WA Museum is coming to she some light on this cute mysterious animals.

To be held at Tree Tops Walk in Walpole in partnership with Department of Environment and Conservation.

Love Your Local Wildlife at Perth Zoo
Follow your heart to Perth Zoo these school holidays and fall in love with your local wildlife. There will be heaps of fun free activities every day. Activities include extra keeper talks and the chance to meet a local native animal, a guided tour of the Australian Bushwalk to discover the unique animals of WA’s south-west, games, craft  and more.

From 10 to 13 April, you can also catch free performances of Edward and Edwina the Emu at 11:00am and 12:30pm. Based on the beloved children’s classic by Sheena Knowles, this live performance features a host of dazzling effects including music, narration and mime.

Normal admission prices apply.

Craft, storytelling and other activities will be held in Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park during the April school holidays.  Each session will offer a fun approach to learning about threatened species and the importance of protecting habitats.   Activities may include weaving, crafts, building poetry webs and an ‘easter hunt’.  Sessions are free and bookings are not required, but places are limited – so get in early!

Rottnest The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) Community Engagement unit together with the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association (RVGA) have created a program of activities and tours that will get you out exploring and learning about Rottnest’s natural environment and interesting history. Join us on a range of activities that will give you a better understanding of our wildlife, including our unique marsupial, the quokka!

Quokka Walk 
They are cute and furry but how much do you really know about our native Quokka?  Explore Quokka habitats with a Guide and learn about this unique marsupial. Join the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association (RVGA) on a free Quokka Walk. 2:30pm – 3:15pm, Monday 09 April – Saturday 21 April 2012

Quokka Crafts
Be inspired by our unique Quokkas, and make your own quokka mask, bookmark and crafts! Tables of craft supplies will be set up at the Museum in Thomson Bay on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2pm. Cost: gold coin donation for activity. 1:00pm-2:00pm, Tuesday 10 April 2012, Thursday 12 April 2012, Tuesday 17 April 2012 & Thursday 19 April 2012.

Discovery Centre
Visit the air conditioned Discovery Centre and find out more about the animals that call Rottnest Island home. Look at preserved specimens- birds, reptiles and mammals, and see the remains of some marine creatures that have been washed ashore over the years! While you’re at the Discovery Centre you can create your own art and craft masterpiece to take home with you:

  • Make some marine-themed crafts including a slimy sea cucumber! 1:00pm – 3:00pm, Wednesday 11 April 2012, Monday 16 April 2012 & Wednesday 18 April 2012.Explore and construct animal habitats! 1:00pm – 3:00pm – Friday 13 April 2012 & Friday 20 April 2012.

You can also make a “Love Your Local Wildlife’ badge, an animal mask and do some colouring in.
Cost: Entry is by gold coin donation and payment for activities ($1-3) is collected at the Discovery Centre.
