National Sorry Day and Reconciliation WeekArticle | Updated 8 years ago A Sea of Hands for Reconciliation Week WA Museum What is National Sorry Day? The 26th of May is National Sorry Day. Sorry Day is a time to pay respect and acknowledge the many thousands of Aboriginal and Torries Strait Islander children who were taken away. We now know them as The Stolen Generation. What is National Reconciliation Week? National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between May 27 and June 3. The dates commemorate two significant milestone in the reconciliation journey - the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and then High Court Mabo decision. The week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can journ the national reconciliation effort. The Western Australian Museum wants to know what does reconciliation mean to you? Come and put your message on a hand and place it on the Sea of Hands Wall.
