Appearance

This pretty snake is harmless to humans, and has the reputation of being one of Australia’s most attractive snakes. It is a small-bodied burrowing snake, with a flat head and protruding snout. Its scales are orange with a white mark inside each one, and there are black markings on the head.

Food!

The Black-striped Snake forages for species such as Worm Lizards in the sandy soils of its home region.

Reproduction

After fertilisation, a female Black-striped will lay 2-5 eggs during the summer months.

Temperament

This little snake is docile, and will not bite when handled. However, the Museum doesn’t recommend picking up a snake, just in case you have it confused with another species!
