Join Craig Cormick as he takes you on a journey through some of the fascinating stories of shipwreck survivors from the age of sail and steam. Many of the wrecks detailed his recently released book, Shipwrecks of the Southern Seas occurred in Western Australian waters. Craig will read from his book and discuss the research involved in these stories, including how an author deals with contentious issues when interpreting the grey areas of history.

Museum Open Day

On December 16, there will be an Open Day to the Museum (entry by donation - excludes the Submarine Tours), and numerous activities:

Craft Activities for kids – available between 10am and 2pm

1) Hardhat Dive Helmet - $2 each
2) Australia II Hats - $2 each

Entertainment - Boxing Kangaroos – available intermittently between 10am and 2pm

2 x Performers in Boxing Kangaroo costumes in front foyer and around Victoria Quay precinct near Museum.

Small Fry is a fun series of stories, puppets, rhymes and dance  which will introduce young children under five years to the inland and coastal animals of the Mid West region of Western Australia.

Join the two young and mischievous dingo pups as they have some unexpected adventures and scrapes when they leave the safety of their den for the first time.

This free public event is a highlight of the Commissioner’s Thinker in Residence: Unlocking Creativity and Museums Australia’s National Conference 2011.

Thinker in Residence Paul Collard and WA Museum chief executive officer Alec Coles will discuss the important role that the arts, culture and creativity play in the development and wellbeing of children and young people.
