Long, faded black, moire silk evening gown with short sleeves. Fastens at front with hook and eye fasteners. Five hooks and two eyes on right side, and five hooks and two eyes on the left. Eight further hooks fastening below the bodice. Dress fastens right over left, with right side slightly longer than the left. Square cut neckline is trimmed with a decorative lace collar, and has a drawstring fastening. Sleeves also end in decorative lace trim. Sleeve lace lightly decorated with floral sprigs and geometric pattern of o and v shapes. Collar lace possibly handmade. Collar lace rests on mesh backing with flowers and cut work. Dress has a train with a godet insert. Back of dress is considerably wider than the front, possibly to accommodate a bustle. Back of the bodice of dress has five black stays inset in it as well as four brown stays, two on each side, in the front. The stays are decorated with yellow four-toed bird feet pattern to secure them, and have an x at the base. Front hem has piece of moire silk lying horizontally across the skirt bottom. Above this the skirt is heavily repaired, suggesting it may have been worn with an overskirt. There is a separate bow attachment consisting of a bow with velvet trim, and a jet clasp mounted on a metal fastener.
