DRESS, Bodice and Skirt

H1986.146.a-b

Dress of mauve-pink silk crepe; handsewn throughout:
[.a] Bodice: short, body-fitting, boned with 5 bones at front and 2 at back; wide, low neckline, said to have been trimmed with black lace; V-pointed front, bound and piped; armholes piped; probably originally had short puffed sleeves, possibly of or trimmed with black lace; lined with white cotton calico; back closure with 7 hooks and eyes.
[.b] Skirt: straight front, full back; pleated at front and sides, gauged at back; apparently attached to original waistband of white linen; central back closure; broad band of Canton shawl-style embroidery in mauve silk thread around hem; lined with white cotton calico.
Dimensions suggest it was made for a small but plump woman.
