DRESS, Late 1860's

One-piece dress of striped lilac silk with blue/green, yellow, lilac, cream and white dots. Braid, of red and green flowers with lilac edging, at cuffs and on bodice, and down front skirt panel. Round neckline. Front fastening bodice, hooks and eyes. Slight v-shaped panel of ornament. Curved sleeves. Rosettes at cuffs. Back of bodice cut in three pieces, front in two. Self piping around armholes. Fully lined with glazed cotton. Skirt attached to band at waist fastening from left hand side. Watch pocket in waistband. Pocket in right hand side of skirt. Large, flat pleats around to tiny gathered section at back of waistband. Half-crinoline skirt cut in 10 pieces, most sections at back. Front has inverted v-shaped panel at centre trimmed with rosettes, and lilac tasselled braid. Lined with glazed cotton. Wool braid at hem. All hand sewn.
