Pale blue silk taffeta bodice and skirt. Style fashionable in early 1870s but generally had an overskirt (missing?).
[.a] High, plain necked bodice; front fastening. Short at front with basque at back. Boned on each side of front opening. Shoulder seams dropped to back of bodice. Back cut in three sections shaped to a 'V'. Sleeves cut in two pieces with seam along top and bottom edge; opening at wrist. Trimmed with lace on sleeves and bottom edge and rosettes around buttons. Lined with white cotton.
[.b] Skirt flat at front with two large flat pleats to sides and all fullness swept to back with tight gathers at centre back. Front cut in three; back in six. Two back panels cut longer to form a deep pout by joining the panels at the centre and pleating to the sides and looped with tapes underneath. Fastens on LHS with deep pocket on RHS. Watch pocket on LHS. Lined with stiffened gauze except two back panels which are lined with white cotton. Hem finished with band of wool braid.
