CH1980.269
Very wide cut low Empire style bodice. Evening wear. Pale gold silk brocade. Neckline bound with pale gold satin, with second band under this. Triangular shaped ornamentation centre front, composed of rows of gold satin. Fine netted frill sewn to inside neckline. Full, short, puffed sleeves in brocade with bound satin and caught with piped satin petals. Bodice and sleeves lined with glazed cotton. Probably dates from period of shortest bodices, i.e. about 1818 - 1820. This also was the period when colours, especially satins and silks in pale yellows, were very popular and beginning to replace white muslin.
