EVENING DRESS, late 1880s (Bodice & Skirt)

Evening dress in figured black silk satin, brocaded with sprays of crocus in brilliant yellows and greens.
(a) Bodice: body-hugging, hip-length; V-form, the V infilled with bright yellow silk satin covered with black net and spangled with black sequins; trimmed back and front with applied sequin-jet bead trim; 3/4 sleeves of spangled net over yellow satin, flounces of yellow and black chiffon at elbows; wide, matador-style epaulette caps overs shoulders, yellow satin, trimmed with black beads and sequins, lined with frills of yellow chiffon; flounce of yellow chiffon tumbles over left shoulder; lined with white striped cotton sateen; heavily boned with 13 bones; front opening with 13 hooks and eyes.
b) Skirt: formed in 2 halves with curved lower edges; straight front; very full back, to be worn with large bustle; train; placket closure and pocket at back. Possibly an overskirt, to be worn with yellow satin underskirt?
