Remipedia are an unusual group having both primitive and advanced characteristics. The few known species are found in the groundwater of caves that have connections to the sea and are affected by marine tides (anchialine systems). The discovery of members of this class in Australia has only occurred recently, where they are only known from a single cave in the Cape Range Peninsula, Western Australia.
