CH1981.61

Off-white suede with strips of leather to reinforce upper edges. Point toe, single buttoned bar across instep, Louis heel. Leather sole, inner sole a lining at back of shoe. Cotton lining at front. Size 5 1/2. On upper sole: "HANAN \ 43. Aue de l'Opera PARIS \ 18. Aue de la Victoire. NICE."

Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.

Cleaned with white - grey suede; probably started out grey. Includes Paris and Nice addresses. A 'nice design'. White leather lined. May be 1925-32 - probably closer to 1930s. Will check the date of Hanan's but they prob. went into 1930s. Well worn, including splitting the sides. Art Deco. design on quarters. Owner probably used shoe trees in them.
Expensive shoes. A mother of pearl button is probably a replacment; on the other shoe, a replacement has been stitched on.
