SHOES

CH1981.34

White leather. Closed shoe. Front of shoe lined with cotton, back lined with leather. Sole lined with red velvet. Pointed toe. Leather strap over arch of foot fastening with leather covered button and button hole. Front and upper edge of shoe to strap decorated with clear glass beads sewn on by hand. Louis heel.

Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993:

Flash red lining. Pre WWI may be 1890s-1910. Button bar style, beaded. Has been cleaned with white polish - its got onto beadwork and sole. Very well worn. Well-made. Probably comfortable.
Louis defined by sole continuing down under arch. Nothing to do with shape.
