Black silk brocade. Fitted bodice, coming to point in front & 2 central back sections extending into narrow basque behind. Front fastening with hook & 14 cloth- covered buttons Small (2.8cm) stand up collar. Long, set- in sleeves with shoulder seam set well back. Inner & outer seam. Deep cuff of same material, piped edge & frill of black machine lace. Front cut in 2 sections. Wide bone down fastening and one on second dart (one bone missing). Back cut in 4 sections with central back seam (from 1880 backs in fashionable beginning to be cut in 6-8 boned sections). Lining of brown glazed cotton. All machine sewn. Inside waist band. Worn by a member of the Harper family at Woodbridge. Watch pocket on outside, L.H.S. at waist.
