LETTER, Arpad Szedlak to Dept of Immigration Perth

H2002.59

Foolscap piece of cream paper (now brown with age) with handwritten letter, in black ink (faded in parts to brown), from Arpad Szedlak and family ("also on behalf of the other families") at the Northam Reception and Training Centre to the Dept of Immigration, Perth, dated 9 January 1951. Letter is enquiring about the wheareabouts of the 35 families' heavy luggage, which have still not arrived although the people arrived in Fremantle on 3 November 1950. "We had gone through so many tribulations/owing to the cruelties and terror of the War, that/it would be an awful loss tous, if we could/not come into possession of our heavy luggage,/which represents our only fortune sved after/the war in course of five years. A long-lasting/storage of this property would certainly be/detrimental to it."
