MEDAL, New Royal Exchange London

Obverse is same as H90.328 with, around rim, wreath above which is a cushion supporting two crossed sceptres and a crown. At the centre, the heads of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert with the wording "QUEEN VICTORIA & / PR. ALBERT". The obverse has a circular border with an allegorical female figure at each side and is lettered "FOUNDED BY SIR THOMAS GRESHAM KNT: 1566. / OPENED IN STATE AND PROCLAIMED 'ROYAL EXCHANGE' / BY Q: ELIZABETH 1570, DESTROYED BY THE GREAT FIRE 1666 / FIRST STONE OF THE SECOND BUILDING LAID BY / KING CHARLES THE SECOND 1667 / WHICH WAS ALSO DESTROYED BY FIRE JANY. 10 1858". Inside the border is a relief of the new building and "NEW ROYAL EXCHANGE LONDON". Beneath this, "FIRST STONE LAID JAN 19 1842 BY / H.R.H PRINCE ALBERT / OPENED BY / H.M.G.M. VICTORIA / OCTR. 28 1844". In fine print under the building, "WM TITE ESQ" with four indecipherable characters following. See also H90.327.
