MEDAL, Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria

Official medal, 2,289 specimens struck in bronze. On obverse, head of Queen Victoria with Jubilee crown. Around the rim, "VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX" (Empress). At base of bust, "J. E. B.". On the reverse is a classical scene with Queen Victoria seated on the throne surrounded by seven allegorical figures, standing or lying. Symbols abound, including the cogged wheel of the Industrial Revolution. Two winged angels supporting wreaths and the initials "V. R. I." float above holding markers with "MDCCC / LXXX / VII" (1887). Five linked shields at the base read "ASIA / AMERICA / EUROPE / AUSTRAL / ASIA / AFRICA" and around the top rim, "IN. COMMEMORATION" is lettered.
