MEDAL, QUEEN VICTORIA DIAMOND JUBILEE

Crowned head of Queen Victoria in her latter years on the obverse. Around the edge, "VICTORIA D:G:BRITT.REGINA F:D:IND: IMP: / MDCCCXCVII (1897). Within this, "IN COMMEMOR.AN.REG. SEXAGESIMI". Initials, probably "TB" can be discerned on the side of the high relief of the bust. The reverse features a coat of arms at the centre surrounded by ten shields marked respectively "H.R.H / PRINCE / CONSORT / DIED / 1861" (largest shield); "H.R.H / PRINCESS / ALICE; "H.R.H / PRINCESS / HELENA; H.R.H / PRINCESS / LOUISE; H.R.H / PRINCESS / BEATRICE; H.R.H / PRINCE / OF / WALES; H.R.H. / DUKE OF / SAXE / COBURG; H.R.H / DUKE OF / CONNAUGHT; H.R.H / DUKE OF / ALBANY; H.R.H / PRINCESS ROYAL." Around the top edge, "THE ROYAL FAMILY / 1837-1897" and in fine print, "SPINK & SON LONDON" and "RD 285989" On rim, Art Gallery number "D86/36". Vast numbers of medals were issued for the Jubilee, honouring the Empire, Royal Family, religious and political leaders.
