Faintly green glaze. Outline of pattern in underglaze black, coloured orange and fawn. Vaguely Chinoiserie pattern, with reserves at edges and the ferric red (orange) colouring. Printed mark on base in underglaze black: "PERS \ (TOrch and bow with) RIDGWAYS". Ridgways Bedford Works, Hanley, trade mark registered in 1880, later marks added "Stoke-on-Trent". Nairn no. 78. Pattern no. "4 \ 7798". Ref. Godden, Encyclopaedia, page 539, no. 3310.
