Spinifex People: Art and stories from Pila Nguru opens at WA Museum Boola Bardip

Vibrant colours and powerful stories now fill the walls of WA Museum Boola Bardip’s special exhibition space, following the launch of Spinifex People: Art and stories from Pila Nguru.

Opening 5 December, the exhibition features a stunning array of artworks, objects, digital projections and film. Visitors will experience the Spinifex People’s enduring connection to Country and their ancestral lands through breathtaking art that embodies the power of the landscape and the stories of their Ancestors.

Kwini Traditional Owners and Rock Art Australia Visit the WA Museum

WA Museum Anthropology and Archaeology staff have had the pleasure of hosting special guests from Kalumburu, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Kwini Traditional Owners Ian Waina, Bernadette Waina and Dorothy Djanghara were in Perth recently with Rock Art Australia CEO Samantha Hamilton and researcher Pauline Heaney, preparing for Ian’s upcoming public lecture at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

Murujuga Rock Art Strategy and Rock Art Stakeholder Reference Group

The Western Australian Museum is a member of the Murujuga Rock Art Stakeholder Reference Group (MRASRG), which is consulted in the development and implementation of the Murujuga Rock Art Strategy. Established in 2018 by the Minister for Environment, Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC, the MRASRG comprises representatives from Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation and key government, industry and community representatives.

Striking mask exhibition opens at Museum of Geraldton

An exhibition of 12 striking masks and related cultural materials celebrating the rich and continuing tradition of mask making in Zenadh Kes (Torres Strait) opens this Saturday, 26 October, at the Museum of Geraldton.

On display for the first time in Western Australia, Evolution: Torres Strait Masks explores the long-standing importance of ceremonial masks in Torres Strait culture, and how they influence contemporary art forms.

Night Sky: Proposals Sought from Nyoongar Artists

The original artwork is for display in the New Museum for WA, which opens in late 2020 in the Perth Cultural Centre.
