CH1981.21
Very deep navy blue (almost black) velvet and black silk. In one piece. Bodice: 3/4 length sleeves; high standing collar, turned down at front. Buttons down front with 22 black glass buttons. (7 not original). Sleeves slightly puffed, double 'V' shaped cuff trimmed with black machine lace, silver glass beads and black stars. Sleeves of velvet with insert of silk. Seams set back on shoulders. Back of bodice cut in eight sections with a bone at each seam, bone under the arm and two bones on each side at front. Back of bodice in velvet, front silk and velvet in parallel sections. Tie attached inside back of bodice. Back of skirt velvet, sides watered silk, front panel velvet. Bustle at back of two double box pleats. Single pleat on either side of skirt. "Lined" with petticoat attached at waist. Sections at back of petticoat threaded with silk ribbon for drawing probably to hold in bustle pad. Ties attached. Ruffle at bottom for protecting skirt. Corded silk. Mostly m/c sewn.
