Silver plated brass cornet by J Higham of London. Maker's details are engraved into the exterior of the mouth above a disc with a coat of arms braised onto the instrument. The mouthpiece accompanying the instrument was made by Hawkes and Son c.1900 (H89.164 b) and the pipe connecting the mouthpiece to the instrument (H89.164 c) both fit into separate compartments in the lining of the box (H89.164 d), see photograph in supp. file. The tapering wooden carry box is painted black with brass fitting. The box is lined with brown velvet. Mr Ray Larner believes that the box is non-standard and possibly of local Albany manufacture. Ray Larner, Music Director, WA Bands Assoc., ph: 457 1858 assisted in identification of instruments.
