The body of the instrument is engraved "Artists Perfected / EXCELSIOR SONORCUS / CLASS A / HAWKES & SON / Denmar Street / Piccadilly Circus / LONDON / 47093". Floral motifs in relief on decorative bands. This instrument was used by the Albany Brass Band. The floral pattern would indicate that the instrument may date to the 1880s or 1890s. Ray Larner, Music Director, WA Bands Assoc., ph: 457 1858 assisted in identification of instruments.
