DRUM, Side, Guards Pattern

Cylinder rims are braced with rope with leather tabs. Body of drum made of polished brass. This drum is often fitted with a metal snare and called a snare drum. This instrument was played by a member of the Albany Brass Band in Western Australia. The drum has a metal snare stretched across one of the batter heads, with the snare key on the side of the drum. The drum was made by Boosey and Hawkes of London, probably in the 1940s. Ray Larner, Music Director, WA Bands Assoc., ph: 457 1858 assisted in identification of instruments.
