H1989.65.a-d

Brass slide trombone, three parts (a,b,c) in a lacquered carry case (d). Engraved near the bell mouth is "Imperial / CLASS A / [winged globe emblem] / Boosey and Hawkes / LONDON". H89.65 b - Trombone elbow, globe and quaver motif on its central brace. H89.65 c - Two parallel brass tubes joined by an elbow at one end. H89.65 d - Carry case. Oil cloth covered wooden carry case with leather handle. Plate tin locks and hinges. Case lined with purple velvet. This trombone was used in Albany, Western Australia, by a member of the Albany Brass Band. Lacquered instruments were common in the 1940s-50s. The elbows are called tuning slides. The larger of the two is part of H89.65 a, and gives the instrument a low pitch. H89.65 c, is the high pitch tuning slide, now obsolete. Ray Larner, Music Director, WA Bands Assoc., ph: 457 1858 assisted in identification of instruments.
