Large standard scale; with 2 brass pans. The beam of the scale is painted black and gold with small amounts of green and red. On one side in gold it reads 'WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT. There are two maker's emblems either side of the word AUSTRALIAN - 'ESTB 1730/ W & T AVERY/ BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND'. On the other side it is printed 'W & T AVERY LD BIRMINGHAM' with 'TO WEIGH 56 LB/ CLASS B', at the central point.
Below this appears a verification mark.
The pillar is painted black, with gold decoration.
Three black painted legs form a tripod, for which there are three wooden stands, and a black metal connector. The case includes compartments for each item. For the beam and the pillar, these are felt (green) lined. A paper label stuck to the inside of the case reads 'DAMAGED FRICTIONS' and is stamped 'KATANNING'.
On the case lid, a metal label at the centre reads 'STANDARD SCALE/ W & T AVERY LTD BIRMINGHAM'. The case has a metal handle at each end.
