Standard yard measure in 2 cylindrical rod form, with two ivory handle sections. At each end of the rod, verification markings are stamped. The rod fits into a brass compartment, which is stamped '3/ AVERY LTD' on one end and 'AVERY LTD/ 7' with a crown and WA in a circle, at the other end. The brass compartment can be removed from the case if required. There are felt (green) lined sections within the case that hold the measure in place.
A paper tag inside the case reads 'Weights and Measures Branch/ REJECTED./ Examiner's Initials.' In handwriting on the other side, 'Ex-Albany'.
On the lid of the case, a metal label, located in the centre reads 'STANDARD/ YARD MEASURE/ W & T AVERY LTD. BIRMINGHAM'.
A small metal key locks the case.
