OUTDOOR BALANCE 7LB, IN CASE

Outdoor aluminium balance, in mahogany case. The scale has an aluminium beam, shackles and pans. On the beam, it is engraved 'TO WEIGH 7LB WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT'. There are two pans, which rest on hooks and wooden rests, when not in use. At the centre of each pan the figure 12 has been engraved. A metal label on the outside of the case and attached with 4 screws reads 'OUTDOOR BALANCE/ 7LB/ W.LT. AVERY LTD. BIRMINGHAM'. The front of the case opens upwards, and two side doors outwards. The handle is leather. The outdoor balance was used by inspectors for testing weights and food packs in shops.
