SCALES, Reverse-acting meat beam

H1992.43

Little information is available, but it is known that this scales has always been in the butcher shop in the Innaloo Shopping centre. Innaloo was built in the 1950's and the scales where probably installed then. Graduated from 0 to 500 pounds it was mounted on the wall and could weigh sides of meat up 500 pounds (225kg). The grad- uated scale beam is marked "FAIRBANKS". A metal bracket is attached vertically to a wall, a maroon painted wooden beam projects horizon- tally from the bottom of this bracket and resembles an "L". The weigh -ing mechanism is suspended from the maroon beam. This beam has the words "Not For Trade Use"in cream paint on L / H side, indicating the scales may be inaccurate. The whole assembly is hinged at the bracket so that it swings out of the way against the wall.
